Don't forget to bring watershoes. There are a lot of rocky wet spots around the hotel. I also highly recommend bringing your own mask/fins/snorkel, although they are available for rent ($65/week or $14/day). You could get a solid set at a dive shop for $100 - $200, or someone told me Costco has a set for about $40. Probably will be cheapy stuff for sale in Mexico, too, or you could buy at dive shop down there. Also at Costco, I just bought a great big beach towel for $16, three people could comfortably sunbathe on it - awesome.

Passports!

Now is a good time to check and make sure your passport is valid! Applications for new passports take 6 - 8 weeks to process. If you are on the Seattle Group Flight, please forward your legal name and passport number to wedding@stevenandreina.com before the end of January.

Father of the Bride Visits Akumal

Bob Burnett just returned from a week of diving in Cozumel. He took the passenger ferry over to Playa Del Carmen and rented a car to drive down and explore Akumal. His impression? Akumal is very beautiful; the beach was fine and sandy and the water very clear. Downside? There isn't much to do around the hotel & condos except sit on the beach with a beer and look out at the sea. Wait, that's a downside? Okay -the pool is very small and is next door to the restaurant and bar, about a block's length down the beach from the hotel and two blocks from the condos. The hotel "Corner Store" sold beer & chips, that's about it. A tip from locals: stop at Sam's Club or Costco in Playa del Carmen to stock up on supplies. When driving to town, watch for the concrete wall that announces "Akumal," it's easy to miss and there are no left turns. (We were told to turn right, then cross the freeway. He drove 1/4 mile down the road before he was allowed to make a u-turn.) The road to Vista Del Mar was full of potholes, likely still unrepaired from Hurricane Dean. And there are no elevators at the hotel & condos, waah. But it was peaceful & gorgeous!

Vista del Mar Condo Reservations

Condos are nearly all gone. Please make sure you have forwarded us your reservation confirmation. And remember, to get our special rates, you must book directly through Vista del Mar: heidi@akumalinfo.com or 1-888-4AKUMAL. We went ahead and reserved two of the last condos so they would not go to visitors outside our wedding. If you contact Vista del Mar and are told that there are no condos left, please check with us. Thanks!

Seattle Flights

All $405 tickets on the Seattle group flight are spoken for, though about 5 of those tickets might become available later. Some of you on the group flight may be bummed that you're going home on Saturday (I'm bummed). To return on the direct flight on Sunday would have cost about $160 more. However, Frontier Airlines has some tickets right now with a Sunday return flight around $470. The downside is that the return flight stops in Denver, extending the trip from 6 to 10 hours. Still, it's a great option if you haven't booked or if you're on the group flight but want to return on Sunday instead. Condo Reservations

The condos are shaping up to be a good party. If you haven't reserved yet, we recommend a ground floor unit so we can take over the beachfront. Don't be reluctant to share a condo with "strangers," we promise, all our friends are awesome, and you still get your own bedroom and in most cases, bathroom. You can use the forum to find roommates, or let us know you're looking and we can set you up.

Vista del Mar Special Low Rates

We're so pleased with the response so far, what an unbelievably fun group of people! We've gotten some feedback that Vista del Mar is charging people mid-season rates. The trip is during mid-season, but we had negotiated low season rates. I've asked Heidi to make sure others in the reservation office know about our deal. I'm confident they'll stick to the agreement, but it might take some reminding, so make sure they give you the rates listed on our Accommodations page. Let us know if you have any trouble!
